Arcangelo’s founder and Artistic Director Jonathan Cohen has been announced as the 15th Artistic Director of the Handel and Haydn Society in Boston, succeeding Harry Christophers.

The appointment follows a string of successful guest engagements and marks the culmination of a three-year search for a new Artistic Director by the Handel and Haydn Society, which was founded in 1815 and is the oldest performing arts organisation in the United States.

Jonny will commence his new role in the 2023-24 season, while continuing to lead Arcangelo in its established annual programme of six special concert and recording projects.

Arcangelo Chair of Trustees Rosalyn Wilkinson said:

“This is a wonderful endorsement of Jonny’s outstanding talents, and we are delighted that new performers and audiences are to experience his uniquely enabling and artful musicianship and leadership.

Ensembles which share Artistic Directors often enjoy a rich and mutually-rewarding exchange of ideas and connections, and so everyone at Arcangelo shares Jonny’s excitement at his new prospects.”
