Jonathan Cohen and Arcangelo launch their tenure at Wigmore Hall as Baroque Ensemble in Residence with two of JS Bach’s earliest church cantatas, including the touching Actus tragicus, perhaps written in 1707 for the funeral of the composer’s uncle, and Telemann’s equally moving funeral cantata, Du aber Daniel, gehe hin.
The programme also offers a chance for Arcangelo’s ace period-instrument players to shine in the Sixth Brandenburg Concerto, with its warm blend of parts for violas, viole da gamba, cello, violone and harpsichord.
