Arcangelo makes its Barbican debut with Haydn’s life-affirming ‘Creation’: ‘a journey of uninhibited joy ‘
“[Cohen’s] engagement…was everywhere apparent, especially in the way that the orchestra immediately engaged with the mood and tone of each number, and in the dramatic arc of each of the choruses..”

The Biblical creation story told in music of cosmic grandeur; a journey of uninhibited joy from the dramatic moment the first ray of light hits the waters of the deep.
It’s hard to imagine a choral work more life-affirming than Haydn’s ‘Creation’. A vision of the universe that embraces both earthworms and angels, it’s absolutely perfect for Arcangelo’s expressive range. For this performance, our Barbican debut, we are delighted to welcome soloists Anna Lucia Richter, Toby Spence and Thomas Bauer.
