Arcangelo launch film fundraiser appeal

The second film in Arcangelo's 'extraordinary music in extraordinary places' series will reveal Baroque fusion music by an "Italian Scotsman".

Arcangelo is pleased to announce details of the second production in the new video strand of its award-winning recording programme. Directed by Andrew Staples, 'Barsanti at Rosslyn' will follow the successful 2023 pilot release of 'Telemann at the Wren' and is being supported by a £25,000 fundraising appeal.

The second film once again celebrates ‘extraordinary music in extraordinary places’ - this time the surprising arrangements by “the Italian Scotsman” Francesco Barsanti of twenty-eight traditional Scottish folk melodies. The filming performance location, Rosslyn Chapel outside Edinburgh, is one of Scotland’s most famous sacred and antiquarian shrines, an early inspiration to ‘national bard’ Robert Burns and subsequent visitors including Walter Scott, the Wordsworths and Byron. Visually outstanding and acoustically splendid, it remains in the care of the same family which founded it in the fifteenth century, and by whose kind permission Arcangelo is honoured to be able to film.

Principal filming will take place in Rosslyn Chapel on 24 June 2025. The film will be released on 30 November 2025, being St Andrew’s Day and the traditional annual day of celebration of Scottish culture.
