|In the coming month, Arcangelo presents its highlight of the year, a programme of Three Bach Magnificats by Johann Sebastian, Johann Christian and Carl Philipp Emanuel. This fascinating stylistic juxtaposition by two sons and their father of the famed musical dynasty allows the audience to immerse themselves in music of great beauty from a changing age, showing the transition from the baroque to classical styles.
Arcangelo will be composed of 29 musicians, a choir of 20 and 5 distinguished international soloists including star counter tenor Iestyn Davies fresh from Glyndebourne’s acclaimed Saul and starring this Autumn in the show Farinelli and the King in the West End, soprano Joélle Harvey who was Sicle in the Royal Opera House’s L’ormindo at the Globe recently, tenor Thomas Walker with whom Arcangelo recently performed at Wigmore Hall, and baritone Thomas Bauer and mezzo soprano Olivia Vermeulen who were the Count and Cherubino in an exciting production of The marriage of Figaro conducted by Jonathan Cohen in France in 2014.
This concert will be performed in three locations: Antwerp in Belgium on 24thSeptember, Saint John’s Smith Square in London on 1st October and Tetbury Festival in Gloucestershire on 4th October, where it will be recorded by Hyperion Records for release next year.
This is the second major choral project by Arcangelo; the first one was the Bach Mass in B Minor released last Autumn, which was a Top 3 Finalist for a Gramophone Award this year.
Putting on projects of this quality and scale is demanding on resources, and Arcangelo is most grateful to the generous private donors who have come forward to help make this happen. We are still seeking supporters to help make up the remaining £10,000 gap in the budget. Further details of how to support are here
Early booking for the concerts is recommended and can be made here. Our concert at St John’s Smith Square on 1 October is followed by drinks in the crypt for our Friends and Supporters. To be included on the guest list, please email email@example.com
We thank all of our generous donors for their ongoing support of Arcangelo.
