‘The Full Monte’ at Wigmore Hall
On Tuesday 18 March Arcangelo delighted a sell-out Wigmore Hall audience with a programme of Monteverdi Madrigals taken from our new album, ‘Love and Loss’.
Audience reaction in the Hall and on Twitter was overwhelming and Neil Fisher in The Times described the concert as ‘The Full Monte’.
‘Love and Loss’ released to critical acclaim
Our 6th recording, ‘Love and Loss’, was released by Hyperion Records in February. A collection of some of the finest word-setting by the great Italian master, Claudio Monteverdi, it features the Sestina Madrigals and Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda with tenor James Gilchrist.
BBC Radio 3 described it as “all beautifully done and lovingly programmed”, while Gramophone Magazine observed that “Arcangelo’s musicians deploy rough-edged expressive risk-taking within a framework of complete stylistic control.” To purchase the disc, please go direct to Hyperion Records.
BBC Music Magazine Awards Nomination
‘Handel’s Finest Arias for Base Voice’ with Christopher Purves has been nominated for a BBC Music Magazine award. The awards are announced at an event at King’s Place on 8 April. Thank you to all our supporters who voted for us in the public poll!
In the recording studio…
Already this year Arcangelo has completed another recording, this time of French baroque cantatas including Charpentier’s Leçons de Ténèbres to add to similar settings by Couperin recorded last year.
April is Mozart and Haydn month!
In April we make two further recordings to establish Arcangelo’s credentials in the classical orchestral field, working with a series of top solo artists.
First, this week is Mozart Violin Concertos 1&5 with Vilde Frang and Mozart Sinfonia Concertante also with violist Maxim Rysanov.
Then later in the month we record Haydn Sinfonia Concertante, which is generously supported by Jerwood Charitable Foundation. This will be paired with Mozart Oboe and Bassoon concertos which we recorded last year.
All supporters are invited to attend open rehearsals for these recordings on 2, 3 and 21st April and we encourage you to bring friends along. Please email email@example.com for more details.
Summer Concert Schedule
In August we are touring Bach Violin Concertos with Alina Ibragimova with whom we appeared at Carnegie Hall in November. The concerts are in France at festivals in Luberon and Paunat on 2 and 4 August respectively. We then perform the programme at Aldeburgh on 7 August, followed by recording sessions a Henry Wood Hall in London.
We will also shortly be releasing details of exciting new concerts in London at a surprise palatial venue!
Future release dates
Later this year we looked forward to the release of three new recordings : Bach Mass in B Minor, Arias for Benucci with Matthew Rose, and French Baroque Cantatas. We will publish further details of the release dates when they are available.
