Dear Friends and Supporters,

As we enter the festive season, the year ends on a high note for Arcangelo with our second No. 1 in the Official Specialist Classical Charts, our recording of Bach Violin Concerti with Alina Ibramigova, released by Hyperion Records. You can also download our Booklet for a review of our recent concerts and recordings and our plans for 2016.

Three Bach Magnificats Tour: Antwerp, London and Tetbury

Arcangelo’s last performances for 2015 were a programme of Three Bach Magnificats by Johann Sebastian, Johann Christian and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. With an orchestra of 29, a choir of 20 and five world-renowned soloists, countertenor Iestyn Davies, soprano Joélle Harvey, mezzo soprano Olivia Vermeulen, tenor Thomas Walker and baritone Thomas Bauer, this was one of Arcangelo’s largest projects yet.

The tour was a triumph and a successful end to a busy year for Arcangelo.  We were particularly pleased to receive so many positive audience comments via social media: ‘ … once again Arcangelo was utter perfection!’, ‘What thrilling Bach Magnificats!’ and ‘ … I was blown away by three electrifying performances!’

We are hugely grateful to our generous donors who supported this event and the recording, which was made live at Tetbury Music Festival in Gloucestershire by Hyperion Records for anticipated release in 2016.

Arias for Benucci with Matthew Rose, Hyperion Records, released last September

Continuing the success of our album Arias for Guadagni in 2012, this album explores the repertoire of one of the most accomplished baritones of the 18th century, Francesco Benucci, with star bass, Matthew Rose.
Benucci was the larger-than-life opera star for whom Mozart created the role of Figaro, and the principal buffo bass in Vienna’s Italian opera company. The disc was selected as The Sunday Times Culture Magazine’s Album of the Week and highly praised by the critics:
The Guardian: ‘hugely impressive’ 4 ****
Early Music Review: ‘thoroughly entertaining’
Gramophone: “A splendid tribute to an 18th-century star, sung with the sonorous fullness and ‘taste’ for which Benucci was famed, and accompanied with style, spirit and … a sense of conniving enjoyment by Jonathan Cohen’s superb period band”

Excerpts from the disc are available to listen to here and you can buy Arias for Benucci on Amazon, iTunes or Hyperion Records.

Arcangelo’s albums are a great Christmas present for music lovers of all ages. Click here for more information about our variety of recordings with world-class soloists.

We are thrilled to that our recording with Christiane Karg, Scene! has been nominated by Gramophone Magazine as one of their Critics’ Choices for 2015.
